I don’t know if this is why everything has worked so well and I’m not sure I’d recommend this kind of thinking to anyone else, but I’ve always known I’d be successful in acting. I have certainly worked for it.

August (Latin): Majestic
Wayne (English): Wagon builder
Booth (English): Small house or dwellingAll these relate to the way story was told. How he was supposed to do the greater/majestic deed of making Emma believe, build a way for her to remember. Also his last name relates to how he has come back home in the end, to his father.
The writers have also revealed some information: “August Wayne Booth, we named him after the guy who coined the term “unreliable narrater”. The term was coined in 1961 by Wayne C. Booth. SO there you go. Names are even important for Real worlders.”
Mad Hatter / Jefferson
Jefferson (German): Peaceful place. A possible reference of his struggles to find that one place with his daughter again, a peaceful one for him.
It is also a reference to the band Jefferson Airplane. They had a hit song called ‘White Rabbit’ based on the story of Alice in Wonderland
Huntsman / Graham Humbert
Graham (English): gray dwelling/homestead. A reference to how his life in Storybrooke is unnatural or without any meaning
Humbert: The Huntsman last name in the original Disney storyPeter
(Greek): Stone. Could be a reference to the fact that he was related to a blacksmith who are usually said to be “hard as stone”
Also possible that he was so named after the story of Peter and the Wolf
